* Investment to happen over 3 years to 2011

* Aims for 1,330 megawatts of renewable energy capacity

SEOUL, July 9 (Reuters) - South Korea's 9 state-run energy companies will invest 3 trillion won ($2.35 billion) in renewable energy in 2009-2011, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said on Thursday.

They have invested a combined 605.9 billion won in the past three years, a document from the ministry said.

"Considering returns on the recent 3-year investment, the 9 firms will raise their investment by 5 times for renewable energy supply," the document said.

Under the new investment, the state-run companies will supply 1,330 megawatts of renewable energy facilities including solar, wind and hydro power generating facilities.

With the expanded investment, renewable energy output will account for around 1.7 pct of total power capacity, from less than 1 percent currently.

The 9 firms are Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) (015760.KS), Korea Water Resources Corp, Korea District Heating Corp and 6 power generating companies, the ministry said.

South Korea on Monday said it would invest 107 trillion won, or 2 percent of its annual GDP, in environment-related industries over the next five years, although it did not specify how it would fund the investment. [ID:nSEO61955]

Separately Seoul on Sunday said that it aimed to raise 2.0 trillion won from the private sector and increase fiscal and financial aid to help so-called "green industries". [nSEO141040] ($1=1276.7 Won) (Reporting by Cho Mee-young; Editing by Michael Urquhart)
