West Australian says no talks over Namibia uranium
SYDNEY, June 29 (Reuters) - West Australian Metals (WME.AX) has not held any formal talks with Rio Tinto (RIO.AX)(RIO.L), France's Areva (CEPFi.PA) or others possibly interested in acquiring all or part of its Marenica uranium project in Namibia, the company said on Monday in response to media reports.
Namibia is home to the Rio Tinto-operated (RIO.L) (RIO.AX) Rossing mine and Paladin Energy Ltd's (PDN.AX) Langer Heinrich project which together account for about 7-10 percent of world uranium production. Areva also has a large presence in the African country. (Reporting by James Regan)
