PRECIOUS-Gold mostly flat, hovers under $1,100

 TOKYO, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Gold was mostly unchanged on Monday
after surging to a record high above $1,100 per ounce in the
previous session as a rise in the U.S. unemployment rate to a
26-½   year high prompted investors to seek a safe haven.
 FUNDAMENTALS
 * Spot gold XAU= was at $1,096.05 per ounce at 0020 GMT,
down 0.02 percent from New York's notional close of $1,096.30. It
hit a record high of $1,100.90 on Friday.
 * U.S. gold futures for December delivery GCZ9 were at
$1,096.50 an ounce, up 0.1 percent.
 * Noncommercial net long U.S. gold futures positions fell 0.2
percent to 241,319 lots in the week to Nov. 3 from 241,777, a
weekly report by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission

 * The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, SPDR
Gold Trust (GLD), said its holdings stood at 1,108.344 tonnes as
of Nov. 6, unchanged from the previous business day. [GOL/SPDR]
 MARKET NEWS
 * The dollar fell on Monday, hurt in part by a meeting of the
Group of 20 finance officials that failed to take any concrete
action to rebalance global flows or talk more specifically about
the dollar's recent decline. [USD/]
 * Japan's Nikkei average edged down 0.5 percent on Monday,
with Canon Inc (7751.T) and other exporters hit by wariness about
the U.S. economy after mixed jobs data as well as by a stronger
yen. [.T]
