TABLE-Japan automakers May output, exports
TOKYO, June 25 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T), the
world's largest carmaker, said on Thursday its global output fell
38.8 percent in May from a year earlier to 442,621 vehicles.
Toyota's global production declined for the 10th straight month amid a prolonged slump in global demand for cars.
Toyota told shareholders on Tuesday it had seen only a scattered recovery and expected its business environment to remain tough in the near term. [ID:nT82556]
Underscoring signs of a nascent recovery in emerging markets,
Suzuki Motor (7269.T), which makes small cars in India and
Hungary, said it boosted overseas production for the first time
in 10 months, mainly to meet firm demand in India.
Mazda Motor Corp (7261.T), meanwhile, said it would start
weekend shifts at a domestic plant from July for the first time
in nine months to meet demand for the new Mazda3/Axela compact
car, while also citing a recovery in some markets thanks to
scrappage incentives. Another domestic factory will begin
overtime work from July, a company official said.
The following are figures for domestic output, exports, overseas and global output of vehicles at Japan's eight carmakers for May, with percentage changes from the year before. May
