TABLE-Japan June minivehicle sales down 16.2 pct yr/yr
TOKYO, July 1 (Reuters) - Japanese sales of minivehicles in June fell 16.2 percent from a year earlier to 138,943 units, the Japan Mini Vehicle Association said on Wednesday.
Sales of minivehicles, which have maximum engine displacements of 660cc, accounted for 37 percent of the domestic auto market in 2008 in volume terms. TOTAL 138,943 (-16.2) Cars 99,550 (-17.8) Commercial vehicles 39,393 (-11.6)
A breakdown of the sales data by company was as follows. Suzuki Motor (7269.T) 45,644 (-9.7) Daihatsu Motor (7262.T) 49,858 (-13.0) Honda Motor (7267.T) 13,436 (-30.6) M'bishi Motors (7211.T) 8,621 (-18.9) Fuji Heavy (7270.T) 8,111 (-25.7) *Nissan Motor (7201.T) 9,443 (-20.1) *Mazda Motor (7261.T) 3,823 (-25.1)
*Mazda sells Suzuki-made minivehicles under its own nameplate. Nissan sells minicars made by Suzuki and and Mitsubishi Motors.
Minivehicles receive preferential tax treatment.
