LONDON, May 20 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 index .FTSE is seen opening
22-31 points down on Tuesday, according to financial bookmakers, having closed
72.2 points, or 1.2 percent higher at 6,376.5 in the previous session.
UK investors are expected to track back from recent gains as energy stocks
rallied to buoy the Dow .DJI overnight, while the Nasdaq Composite Index
.IXIC lost ground. Japan's Nikkei average .N225 was negative, dragged down
by property firms after a brokerage downgrade on the sector.
A busy day on the UK corporate calendar could see individual stocks feature
with retailer Marks & Spencer (MKS.L) and property company British Land (BLND.L)
the top picks.
On the economic agenda, U.S. PPI numbers for April from 1230 GMT and U.S.
IBD consumer confidence index for May at 1400 GMT, may offer further economic
clues.
"Equity markets are looking at a slightly softer start across Europe today
following on from recent gains," said one London trader. "Looking ahead, there's
no shortage of economic and corporate data through the session to offer some
meaningful direction."
Energy shares may also support, after U.S. crude CLc1 continued to march
upwards, at over $127 a barrel, driven by renewed fears of supply disruption and
OPEC's reluctance to raise output at its next meeting in September.
