FACTBOX-S&P 500 cos derive more of their '08 sales outside US
NEW YORK, July 14 (Reuters) - Data from Standard & Poor's showed on Tuesday that S&P 500 corporations generated a greater share of their sales from outside the United States in their fiscal 2008 year.
S&P said U.S. companies have moved operations abroad where products can be more cost efficient to both manufacture and sell, helped by lower costs for labor, healthcare and pensions, and assisted at times by tax laws and product regulations
For companies' fiscal 2008 year, S&P 500 companies with full reporting information posted 47.9 percent of their sales from outside of the United States versus 45.8 percent in 2007 and 43.6 percent in 2006.

Note: 1) Sales are on a fiscal basis, since quarterly reporting is materially less than annual, and therefore does not match official quarterly values; foreign sales are products and services produced and sold outside of the United States.
2) Telecommunications Service sector companies do not break down their overseas sales in their regulatory filings.
3) The data is derived from the 253 companies within the S&P 500 that have full reporting information. (Reporting by Ellis Mnyandu; Editing by Leslie Adler)
