UPDATE 1-Eni says to get compensation after deal on Dacion
(Adds Venezuela reaction, details, background)
MILAN, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Italian energy group Eni (ENI.MI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has reached a deal with Venezuela over the nationalization of the Dacion oilfield there, Chief Executive Paolo Scaroni said, adding compensation would be around book value.
"A few minutes ago, we closed the discussions with the Venezuelan government for Dacion. We will have a reimbursement corresponding to somewhere around the book value," he told a news conference.
Venezuela's Energy Ministry confirmed the deal in a statement late on Friday, saying the accord showed that "reasonable and fair agreements are possible when parties negotiate in good faith."
Venezuela took over the field in 2006 after negotiations with the government of President Hugo Chavez to convert the Dacion subcontracting venture into a state-majority joint venture fell through.
The OPEC country is in a legal tussle with U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil (XOM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) over compensation for a multibillion-dollar oil project in the Orinoco heavy crude belt originally run by Exxon that the government took over last year.
Exxon in recent weeks won court orders freezing up to $12 billion of Venezuela's assets, prompting state oil company PDVSA to sever commercial ties with the Texas-based company.
