UPDATE 1-Salesforce says CEO has 'important announcements'

BOSTON, March 25 (Reuters) - Salesforce.com Inc (CRM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) sent out an email on Tuesday inviting some analysts to hear the business software maker's chief executive speak next month, saying he will be "making some important announcements."

While a company spokesman declined to elaborate on the vaguely worded invitation, Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry said the company's shares are likely to rise on Wednesday amid speculation that big news is coming from Salesforce.com founder and Chief Executive Marc Benioff.

"It may be significant," Chowdhry said.

The invitation said: "Marc Benioff will be hosting a special event and making some important announcements on April 14."

Salesforce.com has previously issued similarly worded e-mails prior to making announcements on major customer wins, new business partnerships with companies including Google Inc (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and the launch of new products.

Investors have come to take terms like "important announcements" at face value, as Salesforce.com shares tend to rise after investors learn that the company has invited analysts to such gatherings, Chowdhry said.

But he discourages clients from making long-term investment decisions based with such little information.  Continued...
