Samsung, Sony to build new LCD line through JV
SEOUL, April 25 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world's biggest maker of large-sized liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, said it would build a new LCD line jointly with venture partner Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).
Samsung said in a filing to the Korea Exchange on Friday that 1.8 trillion won ($1.81 billion) would be invested in the South Korean line via the two firms' S-LCD joint-venture.
In a separate filing, Samsung said total investment in the new line, 8-2, will reach 2.74 trillion won. ($1=996.0 Won) (Reporting by Rhee So-eui and Marie-France Han; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
