Japan's TOPIX down 2 pct as exporters, banks fall

TOKYO, May 21 (Reuters) - Japan's broad-based TOPIX index slid more than 2 percent on Wednesday, with Sony Corp (6758.T) and other exporters sold as the yen advanced against the dollar, while bank shares declined on lingering credit worries.

As of 0130 GMT, the Topix index was down 2.1 percent at 1,370.47. The benchmark Nikkei average .N225 shed 1.6 percent to 13,934.90. (Reporting by Aiko Hayashi)
