Pioneer: in talks with Matsushita to buy plasma panels

TOKYO, March 7 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics maker Pioneer Corp (6773.T) said on Friday that it was in talks with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd (6752.T) to buy plasma display panels.

Pioneer's loss-making plasma TV operations have been struggling to compete with larger rivals with better output efficiency such as Matsushita, the maker of Panasonic-brand electronics. (Reporting by Kiyoshi Takenaka)
