CANADA STOCKS-TSX surges on economic optimism

TORONTO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - (Reuters) - Toronto's main
stock index rose sharply on Thursday, as strong European
economic news helped light a fire under commodities and
financials stocks.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed
up 181.47 points, or 1.7 percent, at 10,841.34, with nine of
its 10 main groups higher.
