TAIPEI, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Micron Technology (MU.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the largest U.S. maker of memory chips, and smaller Taiwan rival Nanya Technology (2408.TW: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) have signed an agreement for technology licensing and a potential chip joint venture, sources from both companies said. The two companies had signed a memorandum of understanding before the Lunar New Year this month, the sources told Reuters Insight, a unit of Reuters.

They said the new tie-up, which could be finalised next month, planned to include 1-gigabit, 68-nanometre technology licensing at Nanya Tech's new fab at the first stage.

Micron could also replace Qimonda (QI.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) as Nanya's new advanced technology partner, a Nanya Tech source said. (US$1=T$31.5) (Reporting by Baker Li; Editing by Doug Young)
