NEW YORK, May 21 (Reuters) - NRG Energy Inc's (NRG.N) Chief Executive David Crane said on Wednesday he had not received any indication from Calpine Corp's (CPN.N) board whether they were interested in NRG's roughly $11 billion bid for the power company.

Crane said in an interview Calpine Chairman William Patterson called on Friday to say they were giving the offer serious consideration, but gave no details on timing or how the board was leaning. He said he had not heard from the Calpine board since.

Crane also said that if the two companies were to combine, they would need to sell somewhere between 3,000 megawatts and 5,000 megawatts of generation in Texas in order to comply with the state's laws.
