PRESS DIGEST - FINANCIAL TIMES - SEPT 4 =6
MATERIALS PRICING UNSETTLES BPI
British Polythene Industries BPI.L suffered a sales fall from 230 million pounds to 226 million pounds in the six months to June 30, while pre-tax profits narrowed from 9.2 million pounds to 8.8 million pounds. Chairman Cameron McLatchie described the numbers as "a satisfactory outcome for a period of challenging market conditions and rising input cost," and said that the difficulty of constantly repricing products - a consequence of raw material price rises - meant that trading conditions would continue to be tough.
