NEW YORK, July 13 (Reuters) - Capital Power Corp (CPX.TO)/TransAlta Corp's (TA.TO) 450-megawatt Unit 3 at the Genesee coal-fired power station in Alberta returned to service on July 12, the Alberta Electric System Operator said in a report.
The unit shut on July 9.
The 1,218 MW Genesee station is located in Genesee, about 50 miles southwest of Edmonton. There are three units at the station, the 384 MW Units 1 (which entered service in 1994) and 2 (1989) and the 450 MW Unit 3 (2005).
Capital Power, which owns all of Units 1 and 2, operates the station for its owners.
Capital Power and TransAlta jointly own Unit 3, which uses supercritical combustion technology.
Capital Power, which is majority owned by Edmonton's EPCOR energy company, owns more than 3,300 MW of generating capacity and markets energy commodities.
TransAlta, of Calgary, Alberta, owns and operates about 9,000 MW of generating capacity and markets energy commodities in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Australia. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino)
