UPDATE 1-Strayer Education earnings rise on enrollment gains

NEW YORK, July 24 (Reuters) - For-profit education company Strayer Education Inc (STRA.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Thursday that second-quarter earnings jumped 23 percent, beating analysts' forecasts, on strong enrollment gains.
Net income rose to $21.3 million, or $1.50 per share, from $17.4 million, or $1.20 a share, a year earlier.
Analysts had forecast earnings of $1.47 per share, according to Reuters Estimates.
Revenue rose 24 percent to $97.9 million on rising enrollment and a 5 percent tuition increase that began in January.
Enrollment at Strayer University for the 2008 summer term was up 20 percent from a year earlier, while the number of global online students rose 51 percent. (Reporting by Christopher Kaufman; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
