Mexico search for GMO rice in U.S. imports still on

MEXICO CITY, March 27 (Reuters) - Mexico will keep looking for unauthorized genetically modified material in rice imports from the United States, a government biosecurity official said on Tuesday.

Marco Antonio Meraz, who heads Mexico biosecurity commission, said the government was in the final stages of analyzing a request by Bayer BAYG.DE Cropscience to authorize its LLRICE62 strain of GMO rice.

Mexico currently permits no genetically modified rice strains.
