HOUSTON, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Shell Oil Co's joint-venture 340,000 barrel per day (bpd) refinery in Deer Park, Texas, shut a catalytic cracker feed hydrotreater on Saturday after a small fire, according to a notice filed with state pollution regulators.

A representative for joint-venture Deer Park Refining LP was not immediately available on Sunday to discuss refinery operations.

The cat cracker feed hydrotreater uses hydrogen under high pressure and high temperature to increase the yield possible from crude oil and reduce the sulfur content of gasoline produced by a catalytic cracking unit.
