TOKYO, March 13 (Reuters) - Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga said on Thursday he would not comment on whether Japanese authorities would consider intervening in the currency market to halt the yen's rise against the dollar.

"I will not comment," Nukaga told Reuters.

The dollar tumbled to a 12-year low below 101 yen on Thursday, sliding on doubts about the effectiveness of the Federal Reserve's efforts to aid strained credit markets and limit the damage to the U.S. economy.

It fell as low far as 100.95 yen on trading platform EBS, the lowest since December 1995, before clawing back to near 101.20 yen <JPY=>. (Reporting by Yuzo Saeki)
