Japan opposition won't back Tanami for BOJ-lawmaker

TOKYO, March 18 (Reuters) - A senior lawmaker in Japan's main opposition Democratic party said on Tuesday he personally thought it would be almost impossible for the party to accept Koji Tanami as next governor of the Bank of Japan.

A ruling party lawmaker said earlier that the government had nominated Tanami, a former top finance ministry official, as the next governor of the central bank after Toshihiko Fukui retires on March 19.

The opposition lawmaker said the Democrats would probably endorse BOJ board member Kiyohiko Nishimura as deputy governor.
