BOJ's Fukui: Must study factors behind imbalances
TOKYO, May 30 (Reuters) - Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Toshihiko Fukui said on Wednesday it is crucial for central banks to carefully examine factors underlying global imbalances and seek desirable policies for both surplus and deficit economies. "In any case, disorderly unwinding of the imbalances and accompanying capital flows would have detrimental impacts on global financial stability," Fukui said in a speech.
He did not mention the outlook for Japan's monetary policy in his speech at a BOJ conference on growth, integration and monetary policy in East Asia.
The BOJ has repeatedly said it will raise rates gradually. Many market players think the BOJ could raise interest rates to 0.75 percent from 0.50 percent as early as the July-September quarter.
