Glaxo wins U.S. approval for lung cancer capsules
BOSTON, Oct. 15 (Reuters) - GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) (GSK.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Monday it has won U.S. approval for a drug to treat small-cell lung cancer, a relatively uncommon form of the disease.
The drug, Hycamtin, also known as topotecan, was approved to treat patients who responded fully or in part to previous treatment with chemotherapy.
The company said the product will be available in 2008.
Hycamtin capsules belong to a class of drugs known as topoisomerase I inhibitors. (Reporting by Toni Clarke, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
