NEW YORK, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's on Friday said it may raise its ratings for Countrywide Financial Corp CFC.N after news that Bank of America (BAC.N) has agreed to acquire the U.S. mortgage lender.

But the rating agency also warned it could reverse course, and review Countrywide for a possible downgrade, if the status of the merger changes. (Reporting by Neil Shah; Editing by Tom Hals)
