MEXICO CITY, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico said on Friday its October same-store sales rose 5.1 percent from a year earlier, helped by an extra Saturday and its ability to keep prices low in tough economic times.

Results were in line with analysts expectations, according to a Reuters poll this week [ID:nN0543143].

The company, known as Walmex, (WALMEXV.MX) recorded a slight 0.2 rise in the average ticket, or the money spent by customers on every visit they make to its stores or restaurants.

However, same-store customer traffic rose 5 percent in October, meaning its low-price campaigns are giving good results while keeping clients' loyalty.

The company has made great strides in attracting customers, particularly with promotions aimed at low-income shoppers, helping Walmex pull ahead of competitors like Soriana (SORIANAB.MX) and Comercial Mexicana (COMEUBC.MX).

Walmex, a unit of U.S. retailer Wal-Mart Stores (WMT.N), ended October with 1,363 outlets across Mexico. (Reporting by Cyntia Barrera Diaz; editing by Carol Bishopric)
