Capitol police find weapons in car
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Capitol police found a grenade, several weapons and ammunition in a car near the Capitol building on Friday and arrested the driver, a police spokeswoman said.
Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said Capitol police charged Christopher Shelton Timmons, 27, with carrying a dangerous weapon. She said additional charges may be filed.
Schneider said a Capitol police officer became suspicious after seeing a rifle case in the car, a Jeep Cherokee, when the driver approached him to ask a question.
Capitol police searched the vehicle and allegedly found other weapons, including a grenade and a pistol, as well as ammunition, she said.
Congress is in recess, but the Capitol is a popular tourist attraction.
