WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The price U.S. consumers paid for gasoline reached a new high of $3.33 a gallon after increasing 4.2 cents over the last week, the federal Energy Information Administration said on Monday.

The national average price for regular, self-service gasoline is up 53 cents from a year ago, due mostly to high crude oil prices, which account for about 70 percent of the cost for making gasoline.
