Honda recalls 22,000 defective lawnmowers
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - American Honda Motor Corp recalled about 22,000 American-made Honda lawnmowers sold in the United States because a manufacturing defect can cause a fuel tank leak, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday.
The company received six reports of a crack developing in the fuel tank, but no fires or injuries have been reported, the U.S. safety agency said.
The recall involves HRX walk-behind lawn mowers with model numbers HRX217KHXA and HRX217KHMA, it said. Only serial numbers from 1400001 through 1453714 are included in the recall.
The mowers were sold by Home Depot Inc stores and by Honda dealers from January through September 2007, and the mowers were priced at $800 to $900, the government said.
Consumers with the recalled mowers should stop using them and contact a Honda dealer to have the fuel tank replaced.
The safety agency posted photographs of the recalled lawnmowers and other details on its Internet site here .
