Marathon says fire out at Texas City refinery

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Marathon Oil Corp said a small pump fire at its 76,000 barrel per day (bpd) Texas City, Texas, refinery was quickly extinguished on Monday night.

Marathon spokeswoman Angela Graves said she did not know to which unit the pump was attached or if refinery production would be affected. No injuries were reported in the fire, Graves said.

The Galveston County Daily News reported Monday night on its website that a giant storage tank was burning at the refinery, with at least one street shut near Texas City's refinery row next to the city's port complex on Galveston Bay.

Graves said she did not know if the pump was in the refinery's storage tank farm, where crude oil, intermediate and finished refined products are stored.

Texas City's three refineries are located adjacent to one another.

Valero Energy Corp operates a 245,000 bpd refinery and BP Plc operates a 467,720 bpd refinery in Texas City, which is about 50 miles south of Houston.

The BP refinery was site of a deadly explosion in 2005, which killed 15 workers and injured another 180 people.
