TORONTO, July 9 (Reuters) - The G8 climate pact meshes well with Canada's plans to reduce its emissions by up to 70 percent by 2050, Canadian Environment Minister Jim Prentice said on Thursday.

"It really fits together well with the pathway that Canada is on ... to reduce our emissions by minus 20 percent by 2020, and then by 2050 to reduce them by as much as 60 to 70 percent," Prentice said during an interview on CBC TV.

Prentice also said a G8 agreement to lower emissions by 80 percent by 2050 is only only an aspirational goal of developed countries collectively.
