LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Ed Begley Jr. has joined CBS' new comedy "Gary Unmarried," which stars Jay Mohr as a newly divorced dad.

Begley will play the family's intelligent but pompous therapist who counseled Gary and his wife Allison (Paula Marshall) during their divorce and is now engaged to Allison. The role was played in the pilot by comedian Larry Miller.

Begley, famed for his environmental activism, appears in the pot comedy "Pineapple Express," which opens in theaters on Wednesday. He also played attorney David Boies in HBO's recent presidential election drama "Recount."
