LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton's house was broken into Friday by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves who forced open the front door and made off with belongings, police said.

Hilton was not home during the early morning burglary, said Richard French, spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The burglary as reported by a security guard at Hilton's gated Los Angeles community, French said.

Police did not release the value of the stolen items. But French said the robber "ransacked" Hilton's bedroom.

Hilton, 27, a member of the family that founded the Hilton Hotel chain, is a fixture of the Hollywood social scene. She starred in reality television show "The Simple Life" and has pursued a career as an actress and singer.
