BANGKOK, May 4 (Reuters) - A large tropical cyclone that slammed into Myanmar's main city, Yangon, has killed people, a resident said on Sunday, citing reports on state radio and television.

"They said that people had been killed, but they don't know the numbers," the person, a local British embassy employee, told Reuters in Bangkok via satellite phone. The reports gave few other details, said the person, who asked not to be identified.

The Internet, as well as land and mobile phone connections, have been down since Cyclone Nargis's 190 km (120 miles) per hour winds hit on Saturday morning.

By 8.30 am (0200 GMT) the storm had passed and the sun was shining, the resident said. (Reporting by Ed Cropley; Editing by Darren Schuettler and John Chalmers)
