LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Mark Wahlberg is taking a global tour.

The actor has come on board to star in "Reykjavik -Rotterdam," a remake of an Icelandic thriller submitted by that country as its official selection for this year's foreign language Oscar.

"Reykjavik" centers on a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after the security guard encounters financial problems.

Baltasar Kormakur, the Icelandic auteur who produced and starred in the original and controls all remake rights, is attached to direct the English-language redo for Warner Bros.

The remake will likely be relocated to other places, filmmakers said. Wahlberg next stars in Peter Jackson's supernatural drama "The Lovely Bones" and the Shawn Levy romantic comedy "Date Night."
