LIMA Nov 22 Leaders from Asia and the Americas
pledged on Saturday to push global trade talks and to reform
global lending institutions in an effort to keep the world from
sliding into a deep recession.
The statement by heads of state from the Asia-Pacific
Economic Cooperation, or APEC, forum is nonbinding and largely
echoed conclusions from a meeting of the Group of 20 leaders in
Washington, D.C., a week ago.
APEC leaders said they will refrain from raising new
barriers to investment or trade over the next 12 months.
The statement came at the mid-point in a two-day summit of
leaders from the 21-member APEC in Peru's capital.
