APEC leaders pledge to push world trade, reform lenders

LIMA, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Leaders from Asia and the Americas pledged on Saturday to push global trade talks and to reform global lending institutions in an effort to keep the world from sliding into a deep recession.

The statement by heads of state from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, forum is nonbinding and largely echoed conclusions from a meeting of the Group of 20 leaders in Washington, D.C., a week ago.

APEC leaders said they will refrain from raising new barriers to investment or trade over the next 12 months.

The statement came at the mid-point in a two-day summit of leaders from the 21-member APEC in Peru’s capital.
