U.S. crisis panel to call Bernanke, Greenspan

WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - The chairman of the U.S. Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission said on Thursday that he will call Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and former Chairman Alan Greenspan to testify.

Phil Angelides, who heads the 10-member panel examining the roots of the recent financial meltdown, said the commission will call other regulators who witnessed the build-up to the financial crisis, including Christopher Cox, William Donaldson and Arthur Levitt, who are all former heads of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The commission on Thursday heard from current SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp Chairman Sheila Bair, who said regulatory lapses fueled the crisis. (Reporting by Karey Wutkowski, editing by Maureen Bavdek)
