Fidelity Capital Markets , the institutional trading division of Fidelity Investments, named Thomas Tesauro executive vice president of its prime services business. Tesauro has more than 25 years of experience in the prime brokerage and equity finance markets, including former leadership roles at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. Most recently, he was managing director at S3 Partners.
Credit Suisse CSGN.VX hired David Russ, former chief investment officer of Dartmouth College’s Office of Investments, as head of a new investment strategies unit.
Mark Baumgartner, a former senior portfolio strategist at Morgan Stanley (MS.N), will also join the strategy group, which will be part of Credit Suisse’s asset management division.
Goldman Sachs Group (GS.N) said former SEC chairman Arthur Levitt agreed to serve as an advisor, providing strategic advice on matters including public policy. Levitt was the longest-serving SEC chairman, running the agency from 1993 to February 2001. He was former chairman of the American Stock Exchange and former president of brokerage Shearson Hayden Stone. Levitt today also serves as advisor to Carlyle Group, Promontory Financial Group and Global Electronic Trading Co.
Morgan Keegan & Co, investment banking unit of Regions Financial (RF.N), expanded into the financial restructuring business by taking on The Spectrum Capital Group. Spectrum managing partner Michael Lederman was appointed head of Morgan Keegan’s new special situations group, while turnaround specialist Joseph Sands joins as a managing director. Lederman was a restructuring attorney for Shearman & Sterling and a founder of the restructuring group at Goldman Sachs and restructuring boutique The Gordian Group.
RBC Capital Markets, unit of Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO), said it named Kurt Hallead and Greg Pardy as co-heads of global energy research.
Qatalyst Group, a technology merchant bank founded last March by famed dealmaker Frank Quattrone, said Ian MacLeod joined as head of global software and services investment banking. MacLeod, based in San Francisco, is an 18-year veteran who most recently was the head software banker at Goldman Sachs.
H&R Block Inc (HRB.N)
The tax services provider named Kathryn Fulton senior vice president of government relations and public policy, effective immediately. Fulton joins the company from Barclays Capital.
DEUTSCHE BANK (DBKGn.DE)
The investment bank has appointed Jay Choi as director and head of Korean equity research, effective immediately. Choi joins from Blackstone AMN Advisors and is based in Seoul.
The global wealth manager said it appointed Mark Cooke as managing director and global chief risk officer. Cooke joins from UBS.
BANC OF AMERICA SECURITIES-MERRILL LYNCH RESEARCH (BAC.N)
The financial institution appointed Michael Widmer and Tanapoom Damraks as strategists to its global commodities research team. Widmer joins from BNP Paribas and will lead coverage in metals markets, based in London. Damraks joins as a commodities strategist and will also be based in London.
The company, which specializes in venture capital and project financing, said it appointed former Massachusetts Governor William Weld as international business adviser to the Ivanhoe group of companies. Weld will be based in New York.
The provider of financial services said it appointed Ali Mudeen as managing director of its Cayman Islands operations. Mudeen joins from Caledonian Global.
The investment bank and broker-dealer named Benny Lorenzo chairman and chief executive officer, effective June 1. Lorenzo had acquired a majority interest in the firm through BLMK Capital Management LLC in March.
The financial services firm said it appointed former Bear Stearns Chief Executive Alan Schwartz as executive chairman. Most recently, Schwartz was affiliated with Rothschild Inc.
AUERBACH GRAYSON & CO INC
The New York-based brokerage firm said it appointed Alexander Kazan as Vice President of Latin American equities. Kazan joins from Bear Stearns.
The specialist asset management company said it appointed Jeff Keen as director and co-head of fixed income. Keen was previously at TriAlpha Investment Advisors.
The business advisory firm said it appointed Anne Hamilton to lead the insurance tax team. Hamilton joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The alternative investment manager said it appointed Anthony Miller as president and chief executive officer of the newly formed unit, Pacific Alliance Japan Ltd.
