May 16 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 2000 GMT on Friday.

** Private equity firm Carlyle Group [CYL.UL] is to buy a majority stake in the U.S. government business of Booz Allen Hamilton Inc for $2.54 billion, the management consulting technology firm said.

** The UK's biggest electricity producer, British Energy (BGY.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), has received early stage takeover proposals, it said, which value it at more than 10.8 billion pounds ($21 billion).

The nuclear power company, which operates eight nuclear plants, has received takeover or other approaches from French utility EDF (EDF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), France's Suez (LYOE.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), and a consortium made up of Germany's RWE (RWEG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Spain's Iberdrola (IBE.MC: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), a source familiar with the matter told Reuters. ** A planned $1.7 billion merger between Polish engineering group Pol-Aqua PQAA.WA and builder Polnord PNOR.WA tottered on the brink of collapse after Polnord's main owner rejected plans to change deal terms. [nL16854412]
