Daiichi Sankyo says FDA OKs Welchol for diabetes treatment

Jan 18 (Reuters) - Daiichi Sankyo Inc, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan's Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd (4568.T), said U.S. health regulators approved its cholesterol drug Welchol to reduce blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Welchol is now the first and only medication approved to reduce both glucose and cholesterol levels, the company said in a statement. (Reporting by Jennifer Robin Raj in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
