LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - U.S. drugmaker Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP.N) has withdrawn its application to European regulators for experimental antibiotic garenoxacin, the European Medicines Agency said on Thursday.

The move follows a similar withdrawal in the United States last August. The drug was developed by Japan's Toyama Chemical 4518.T, which was expected to get royalties on sales.

The European drugs watchdog said the withdrawal of garenoxacin followed a request for additional information, to which the company was unable to respond within the permitted timeframe.
