MedImmune's FluMist benefits some young kids-panel

GAITHERSBURG, Md., May 16 (Reuters) - The benefits of MedImmune Inc.'s MEDI.O FluMist influenza vaccine outweigh any possible risks for some younger children, a U.S. advisory panel said on Wednesday.

The Food and Drug Administration's panel of outside experts, in a 9-6 vote, found the nasal spray was beneficial for 1- to 5-year-olds. But the panel saw less benefit in children as young as 6 months old.

MedImmune is seeking wider approval for the vaccine, which is already approved for 5- to 49-year-olds.
