Verizon to request Bush veto on ITC decision
NEW YORK, June 7 (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless, the second biggest U.S. mobile service provider, plans to ask President Bush to veto the International Trade Commissions decision to ban the U.S. sale of some new high-speed cell phones that include Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O) chips.
Verizon Wireless, owned by Verizon Communications (VZ.N) and Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L), depends on chips from Qualcomm for the vast majority of its high-speed wireless cell phones, according to analysts.
"Its a bad order that essentially attempts to freeze innovation in cell phones and it obviously won't stand through the process," said Verizon Wireless spokesman James Gerace.
"We'll be looking for a presidential intervention."
