Verizon to request Bush veto on ITC decision
NEW YORK, June 7 (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless, the second biggest U.S. mobile service provider, plans to ask President Bush to veto the International Trade Commissions decision to ban the U.S. sale of some new high-speed cell phones that include Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) chips.
Verizon Wireless, owned by Verizon Communications (VZ.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), depends on chips from Qualcomm for the vast majority of its high-speed wireless cell phones, according to analysts.
"Its a bad order that essentially attempts to freeze innovation in cell phones and it obviously won't stand through the process," said Verizon Wireless spokesman James Gerace.
"We'll be looking for a presidential intervention."
