Greek police detonate bomb at Shell office

ATHENS, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Greek police detonated a home-made bomb outside the headquarters of oil company Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L)in the southern suburbs of Athens, police said on Friday.

The device, planted by unidentified attackers, was set off in a controlled explosion at about 4 a.m. (0100 GMT) causing minor damages to surrounding buildings and no injuries, police said.

“Police defused the bomb in the entrance of our buildings and the company is operating normally,” a Shell official told Reuters.

After an anonymous telephone call, warning the bomb would go off in 20 minutes, police rushed to the scene and detonated the bomb found next to a tree at the entrance to an office building.

“The detonation team immediately carried out a controlled explosion. We still don’t know who is behind the attack,” a police official told Reuters.

In Greece, self-proclaimed anarchists and leftist groups regularly attack banks, government and company buildings causing minor damage. The attacks have increased in frequency in recent years. (Reporting by Renee Maltezou; editing by Keith Weir)
