FACTBOX: U.S. army's 10th Mountain Division, 2nd BCT

The 10th Mountain Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), based at Fort Drum in northern New York state, is one of the U.S. military units that has deployed most in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On its most recent deployment in Iraq, 2BCT lost 52 soldiers killed in action, with 270 wounded and two missing.

The following is the unit's deployment history since 2001 and the time between deployments, known as "dwell time":

* Afghanistan: December 2001 to April 2002 (five months)

* Dwell time in United States: Under 13 months

* Afghanistan: May 2003 to December 2003 (eight months)

* Dwell time in United States: Six months

* Iraq: June 2004 to June 2005 (12 months)  Continued...
