Alcon ends macular degeneration drug program
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Alcon Inc said on Friday that it has ended development of anecortave acetate as a treatment for lowering the risk of a sight-threatening eye disease known as age-related macular degeneration.
Alcon said the decision followed a planned interim analysis of clinical studies.
The company said it continues to study anecortave acetate to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
