 -- Final day of United Malays National Organisation's
(UMNO) AGM.
 MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 * Malaysia's benchmark stock index .KLSE ended flat on
Thursday after hitting a new 16-month high as No.2 lender CIMB
(CIMB.KL) and telecom firm Axiata Group (AXIA.KL) fell.
Third-ranked Public Bank (PUBM.KL) was flat. It gained earlier
after the bank said third-quarter net profit rose 3.2 percent
to 639 million ringgit.[.KLSE]
 * Late-day strength drove U.S. stocks to 2009 highs on
Thursday as rising oil prices lifted energy shares, eclipsing
the banking sector's retreat after investors panned earnings
from Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. [.N]
 * Oil prices jumped more than 3 percent on Thursday to settle
at their highest level in a year after government data showed a
steep, unexpected drop in U.S. gasoline and distillate

 * Malaysian palm oil futures dropped as much as 2.4 percent to
a near one-week low on Thursday with traders taking profits

 ASIA MARKETS NEWS - For an outlook of Asian stock trading,
click on [STXNEWS/AS] - The Indonesian rupiah and Malaysian
ringgit led Asian currencies higher against the beleaguered
dollar on Thursday, but the baht came under selling pressure
amid concerns over the Thai king's health. [EMRG/FRX] - Most
Southeast Asian stock markets advanced on Thursday with lenders
DBS and United Overseas Bank leading Singapore to a 13-month
high, while Thailand's index suffered its biggest drop in a
