* FDA said Synthes device is a health hazard

* Company has recalled all components

* Shares fall nearly 3 percent

ZURICH, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Shares in Swiss medical devices maker Synthes (SYST.VX) fell more than 3 percent on Thursday, after U.S. regulators said one of its devices was a health hazard.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified a recall of Synthes's Synex II Central Body components, an expandable vertebral body replacement device, as Class I, meaning the products could pose an imminent health hazard.

"Synthes has indicated that less than 1 percent of its sales come from this product. However, we expect investors to focus on the potential damages Synthes may have to pay," said Helvea analyst Daniel Jelovcan. Synthes voluntarily recalled all the components on Sept. 14 following six adverse event reports. [ID:nL4656980]

The stock was down 2.8 percent at 120.20 Swiss francs by 0831 GMT, when the DJ Stoxx European healthcare index .SXDP was down 0.6 percent. (Reporting by Sam Cage; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
