Hitachi president says to review nuclear target -Kyodo

TOKYO, April 6 (Reuters) - Hitachi Ltd will review its target to secure 38 nuclear power generation projects over the next two decades, in light of Japan’s protracted nuclear crisis, Kyodo news agency quoted the electronics firm’s president Hiroaki Nakanishi as saying on Wednesday.

Hitachi has been cooperating with General Electric to win more such deals, Kyodo said.

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan damaged Tokyo Electric Power Co’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo and engineers are struggling to prevent further radiation leaks.

The crisis has sparked concerns about the safe use of nuclear power in earthquake-prone Japane, the world’s third-largest economy.

Hitachi is the supplier of the stricken plant’s No.4 reactor, which was undergoing scheduled maintenance and not in operation when the earthquake and tsunami hit. (Reporting by David Dolan; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
